River City Project

After sharing information about Harvard’s River City Project, a multi-user virtual environment for scientific investigation, with a 6th grade teacher, she was interested in having me teach the lessons. Instead, I was able to coach her in leading the project with her students and scaffold her professional learning within the context of her work with her students. This resulted in an increase in her self-confidence and willingness to share her learning with colleagues. This exemplifies the gradual release of responsibility which is the goal of the job-embedded model.
